Event details

The Fort Hall Reservation opens its outdoor festival grounds each August for four days of competitive dancing, drumming, traditional games and rodeo that make up one of the region’s most significant Indigenous cultural gatherings. Daily programming runs from mid-morning until 10 p.m., and arts, food and ceremony run alongside the athletic competition throughout the schedule, with admission around $10 per day.

The breadth of programming is what rewards a longer visit — a single afternoon might catch only the rodeo or only a portion of the dance competition, while the full four-day schedule lets visitors experience the festival’s cultural depth rather than a condensed sample of it.

That same breadth makes nearby lodging worth arranging in advance, particularly for evening events that draw substantial local and traveling crowds. Southeast Idaho’s surrounding attractions extend the trip naturally: the Portneuf Valley offers hiking and scenic drives, American Falls Reservoir provides afternoon fishing and boating, and the region’s hot springs give visitors a place to unwind after a full day of dancing, drumming and rodeo competition under the August sun.
