Hot-Air Balloons Rise Above Boise for Five Days
Mass ascensions, colorful specialty balloons, and evening glow events fill Ann Morrison Park during a free five-day Labor Day tradition.
Event details
Ann Morrison Park fills with color each Labor Day weekend as dozens of hot-air balloons rise over Boise starting around 6:30 a.m., with select evenings adding illuminated balloon glows that draw families back after dark for a second daily spectacle, all free to attend.
The two-part daily rhythm sets this festival apart from a single-morning launch. Early risers catch the mass ascension as balloons drift over the city, while evening visitors return for glow events where tethered balloons light up like giant lanterns against the darkening sky — effectively two separate experiences within one festival.
Five days of programming, weather permitting, give visitors real flexibility to catch a launch even if one morning gets scrubbed by wind. Families building a Labor Day weekend around the festival will find plenty nearby: the Boise River Greenbelt connects the park to downtown, foothill trails offer an early hike before the morning launch, and Lucky Peak Reservoir rewards an afternoon swim between the day’s two balloon events. Free admission throughout makes it easy to return for both a dawn launch and an evening glow.
