Gulf State Park spreads its Independence weekend across two full days beside Lake Shelby, opening with a patriotic bike and pet parade before settling into an outdoor art market, food vendors, and live music. On July 4, fireworks launched from the Gulf State Park Pier close the celebration over open water.
What separates this event from a single evening of fireworks is the access it grants to the rest of the park: beaches, paddling, and miles of trail sit within walking or biking distance of the festival grounds, so families can treat the celebration as one stop on a larger outdoor day rather than the whole itinerary. The bike and pet parade in particular gives younger children an easy way to take part rather than simply watch.
