High-elevation downhill racing launches Sunrise’s summer mountain series
Southwest riders practice and race steep lift-served courses while families enjoy a full weekend of White Mountains recreation and resort lodging.
Event details
Round one of Sunrise Park Resort’s downhill series opens the summer at one of Arizona’s highest-elevation bike parks, where racers spend Saturday practicing before Sunday’s timed runs send them down roughly 1,500 vertical feet of natural mountain terrain. Youth, novice, expert, e-bike, and professional categories keep the field genuinely varied from the season’s very first weekend.
Families new to downhill racing will find this opening round especially approachable: the resort’s Race n Stay packages bundle entry, lift access, and two nights of lodging into a single booking, removing much of the planning that usually comes with a destination race weekend and letting first-timers focus on the course itself rather than juggling separate reservations for racing and accommodations across the summer’s opening weekend.
Spectators can pair race-day viewing with scenic lift rides, hiking, camping, and the wider White Mountains lake country surrounding Greer. Because this opening round sets the tone for the entire summer series, expect a strong turnout of both riders and families settling in for the resort’s full slate of warm-weather recreation across the June weekend.
