Mountain bikers race long Tahoe forest routes
Hundred-kilometer and fifty-kilometer riders tackle Sierra terrain around Northstar and Truckee, creating a full destination weekend for racers and support crews.
Event details
Tahoe 100 sends mountain bikers through forest roads and singletrack around the Northstar-Truckee high country, with long distances, elevation, and mountain weather making the finish especially satisfying for riders who complete the full course each July. The resort base area offers shops, restaurants, and shade for families waiting through a long day of racing.
Families supporting a rider can use the resort base area as a comfortable home base, watching the start and finish from the same location while filling the hours in between with lake time or village exploring rather than following a remote course.
Most participants need a pre-race night for packet pickup and an early start, with many staying afterward for recovery. Reserve a Truckee-area Stay in advance, pack layers for cool mountain mornings that warm quickly, and add Lake Tahoe beaches or Truckee restaurants to balance the racing itinerary. It is a demanding ride made comfortable by a well-chosen home base, letting families settle in rather than shuttle between separate start and finish areas. Afternoon thunderstorms are common at this elevation in July, so pack rain layers even under a clear morning sky.
