Event details

The TAP into Ennis Brew and Spirit Festival returns to Lions Club Park at the end of Main Street in Ennis, Montana, on the third Saturday in May 2026, running from noon to 4 p.m. The event is organized by the Ennis Chamber of Commerce and has grown steadily since its first edition, drawing over 700 attendees at its 2023 peak to a festival that concentrates Montana’s most respected craft brewing and distilling operations in a single afternoon in a town of roughly 900 people. Admission is $30 and includes a souvenir Silipint cup, two full pours of beer or specialty drink, and unlimited tastings from the participating producers. Designated drivers enter free.

Past editions have featured between seven and eight distilleries alongside eight or more breweries. Previous distillery participants have included Willie’s Distillery, Bozeman Spirits, Dryhills Distillery, Glacier Distilling Co., The Montana Distillery, Montgomery Distillery, and Wildrye Distillery. Brewery participants have included Bozeman Brewing Company, Madison River Brewing Company, Muddy Creek Brewery, Outlaw Brewing, Philipsburg Brewing Co., and White Dog Brewing. Food trucks operating at previous festivals have included Madison Smokehouse and Thai Basil. Live music plays through the full four-hour window, with local bands providing a set list suited to an afternoon in a mountain valley. A brown bag grab auction adds a competitive layer to the festival’s otherwise relaxed format.

Ennis, the Madison River, and What the Town Is Actually Known For

Ennis sits in the Madison Valley in Madison County, Montana, 70 miles from Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport via Highway 287, and the Madison River that flows through the valley floor is, by most accounts among fly-fishing professionals, one of the five best wild trout streams in North America. The 50-mile stretch of the Madison between Quake Lake and Ennis Lake, commonly called the “50 Miles of Riffle,” runs through an uninterrupted corridor of mountain valley that holds rainbow and brown trout in a density that produces consistent feeding rises from spring through early fall. Montana Troutfitters and Madison River Fishing Company, both based in Ennis, operate year-round guide services and can put a first-time angler in a raft with a knowledgeable guide for a half-day or full-day float within a 10-minute drive of Lions Club Park.

If You’re Going with Kids
Bear Creek Overlook, four miles east of Ennis on Bear Creek Road, provides one of the most accessible elevated views of the Madison Valley available by car in the region and is suitable for children of any age. The viewing platform looks north up the valley toward Ennis Lake and the mountains flanking the upper Madison drainage, a landscape that gives younger visitors a clear sense of the scale of the terrain surrounding the town.

Quake Lake and the Memory It Carries

On August 17, 1959, an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale triggered a massive landslide near Hebgen Lake that buried a campground, killed 28 people, and dammed the Madison River, creating Quake Lake overnight. The lake and its surrounding Forest Service interpretation site, 30 miles north of Ennis on Highway 287, remain one of the more sobering and visually striking geological landmarks in Montana, with standing dead timber protruding from the water and a visible scar on the canyon wall where the landslide originated. The USDA Forest Service maintains a visitor center and interpretive trail at the site that is appropriate for families with older children.

Where to Stay

Ennis has several small motels and inns along Main Street, with the Sportsman’s Lodge and the El Western Cabins being the two longest-established options in town. For lakeside rentals near the Madison Valley, look on Lake.com for properties in the Ennis and Madison County area that combine access to the brewery festival with morning proximity to the river’s guided float launch points. Yellowstone and the Gallatin Valley corridor book out months ahead for May and June; plan accommodations for the TAP into Ennis weekend at least six weeks in advance.
