Event details

Some fireworks shows ask you to find a patch of grass and look up. This one asks you to find a stretch of sand and look out.

The City of Gulf Shores Independence Day Celebration launches its annual fireworks from the Gulf State Park Fishing and Education Pier at 20800 East Beach Boulevard, and the Gulf of Mexico serves as the stage floor. The show runs from 9 to 10 p.m. on July 4, 2026, and watching from the public beach costs nothing.

The pier sits within Gulf State Park, one of Alabama’s most well-maintained coastal parks, and the surrounding public beach offers miles of viewing space along the shoreline. Arriving by 8 p.m. gets you a comfortable position on the sand without the scramble that hits closer to launch time.

Families tend to gather with beach chairs and blankets directly in front of the pier, while couples often walk west along the beach for a quieter vantage with a longer view.

LuLu’s at Homeport Marina, owned by Lucy Buffett and a Gulf Shores landmark since 2003, is one of the most popular dinner stops before the fireworks, with outdoor seating and a live music patio that fits the holiday mood well. The Gulf restaurant on West Beach Boulevard is another strong option for Gulf-to-table seafood with views of the water.

This celebration is as simple as a Fourth of July event gets, and that is precisely what makes it work. The beach is fully accessible along the boardwalk and hardened sand areas, and leashed pets are permitted on Alabama’s public beaches, though check current Gulf State Park rules before bringing a dog to the pier area.

The weather in Gulf Shores on July 4th is reliably warm and humid, typically in the upper 80s at showtime, and sea breezes off the Gulf offer modest relief. If afternoon thunderstorms push through earlier in the day, as they sometimes do in July, the evening often clears in time for the show, but it is worth monitoring the forecast and knowing the city’s social pages for any updates.

Gulf Shores and the surrounding Orange Beach corridor offer some of Alabama’s most sought-after beach vacation rental inventory. Properties directly on the Gulf fill fastest around the Fourth of July, so early booking makes a significant difference.

Book your accommodations near Gulf State Park on Lake.com and turn the fireworks into the centerpiece of a full Gulf Coast holiday week.
