Event details

From June 12 through September 6, 2026, Madison River Tubing runs its popular Town-to-River Tube Trip on the warm, smooth-moving waters of the Madison River, one of Montana’s most celebrated and approachable river experiences. Trips run Thursday through Sunday, departing at 11:15 AM from the Madison River Tubing shop at 1110 West Main Street in Bozeman, directly across from Bozeman High School. Plan for 4 to 5 hours on the water depending on current levels. The shop has been running this operation for 25 years and handles all the logistics so you can show up without fussing over equipment or shuttle coordination.

## How the Day Works

You bring the drinks and snacks. The rest is covered. At the shop, you’ll be set up with a high-quality Aire deluxe tube featuring a mesh bottom, a personal floatation device, and straps to connect your group so you drift together on the current. A shuttle van or bus takes you from the shop to the put-in at California Corner on the Madison, where the trip leader helps everyone onto the water and connects tubes for groups. At the takeout at Blacksford, the crew collects gear and transports everyone back to Bozeman. The loop runs cleanly and reliably, which is why people come back year after year.

The Madison here is warm and mellow by Montana standards. The current moves steadily through stands of cottonwood and riparian willow, with mountain views visible from open stretches of river. Bald eagle sightings are common. Groups of up to eight can tie their tubes together, which makes this one of the better group water activities in the region. Add-on rentals at the shop include waterproof Bluetooth speakers, floating coolers with ice, and standup paddleboards for anyone who wants to try something different midway through.

> Before You Go
> – Trips depart at 11:15 AM. Arrive at the shop at least 30 minutes early for check-in. Additional afternoon and evening departures are available; check madisonrivertubing.com for the full daily schedule.
> – Ages 3 and up are welcome.
> – Buy or rent a waterproof phone case at the shop. The river has claimed many phones from people who thought they were careful.
> – Parking is at the Town Pump (north section of the lot) if you’re using the in-town pickup. Pre-pay your trip if meeting there.
> – This is a no-glass-containers trip. Plan your drinks accordingly.

## Who Should Float

This is one of the more family-friendly water activities in the Bozeman area. The relaxed current and mesh-bottom tube design work well for young children and first-timers. Solo travelers, couples, and large reunion groups all find the format equally accommodating. The trip’s pace is genuinely unhurried: you stop when you want, connect with your group, and let the river set the tempo.

Pet owners should call ahead to ask about dog policies, as rules can vary by season and water conditions. Hyalite Reservoir, about 12 miles south of Bozeman, is a beautiful alternative or add-on for paddleboarding on a lake with sharp mountain views. Madison River Tubing also rents paddleboards for Hyalite days.

## Weather on the Water

June in Bozeman runs warm and sunny with occasional afternoon thunderstorms rolling in from the surrounding mountains. Water temperatures on the Madison are comfortable for tubing by mid-June. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and a light quick-dry layer for after. The drive back to the shop is a good time to have dry clothes waiting in your car.

> Good to Know
> – Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is approximately 10 miles northwest of town.
> – July and August are peak season. Weekend spots book out well in advance. Plan ahead, especially for groups of four or more.
