Waterfall swims and Arbuckle trails for the long weekend
Memorial Day weekend signals peak season at Turner Falls Park, when day trips turn into full-on waterfall weekends with hiking, creek time, and caves.
Event details
Turner Falls Park Peak-Season Kickoff signals the start of the busy summer stretch in the Arbuckle Mountains of Davis, Oklahoma. Over 1,500 acres, you get spring-fed swimming holes, limestone terrain, and the park’s main event: Oklahoma’s tallest waterfall, a 77-foot drop into a Honey Creek swimming area. Plan to spend the long weekend rotating between the water, established hiking trails, and shaded picnic zones.
Memorial Day weekend brings a high-energy, social atmosphere, so your timing matters. Arrive by 7:00 AM if you want a parking spot near the falls and cooler hours for exploring. Between swims, you can tour Collings Castle, the 1930s stone structure on-site, then track down the park’s three natural caves and finish with the overlook above the falls for wide views across the Arbuckles.
Entry is tightly managed at peak demand. Adult tickets run $20 on holiday weekends and you should buy online in advance since capacity sellouts are common. Pack high-SPF sunscreen, sturdy water shoes for slick creek beds, and plenty of hydration. Pets, glass containers, and alcohol are prohibited, and you will need a parking permit on weekends and holidays during peak season from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
If storms raise creek levels or the park hits capacity, have a backup plan ready, with Arbuckle Wilderness and Chickasaw National Recreation Area nearby. For an easy overnight, book on-site cabins, RV hookups, or primitive campsites. If you prefer more space from the crowds, look at hotels and vacation rentals in Davis and around the Arbuckles, and you can use Lake.com to scout quieter regional stays.
