From October 13 to October 12, 2026, the Wachusett Dam will open its gates to the public, inviting visitors to walk across its impressive structure and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The event features guided tours that delve into the dam’s construction and the communities that were relocated to make way for the reservoir. DCR Watershed Rangers will be on hand to provide information about the agency’s watershed protection program, responsible for safeguarding the metropolitan Boston water supply, including the Wachusett Reservoir and watershed area.
This event is perfect for families with children, offering a safe and educational environment where kids can learn about engineering marvels and local history. Pet lovers can enjoy the scenic beauty of the area, though please note that dogs are not allowed on water supply protection lands. Couples can find quiet corners along the reservoir to enjoy each other’s company, while large reunion groups can gather to share meals and participate in group activities. To make the most of your visit, consider bringing picnic blankets, folding chairs, and sunscreen. Parking is available along Route 70, and additional parking is provided by the Clinton Public Schools at the Clinton Middle School or Clinton High School, with a scenic one-mile walk to the dam along the North Dike Path.
