Event details

Wharf to Wharf follows a lively six-mile course from Santa Cruz to Capitola, passing ocean overlooks, neighborhood bands, and dense spectator pockets, with a field of roughly 16,000 making race morning feel like a moving coastal festival each summer. Live bands stationed roughly every half-mile keep the course lively from the Santa Cruz start to the Capitola finish.

Because bands and cheering neighborhoods line nearly the entire route, families watching from any point along the six miles get a genuinely festive experience rather than a quiet wait for runners to pass, making it easy to settle into a comfortable place without missing the atmosphere.

Road closures and the point-to-point finish reward an overnight Santa Cruz or Capitola Stay rather than a same-day round trip. Reserve lodging in advance, pack sun protection for the coastal morning, and recover on the beach, walk the wharf, or explore Monterey Bay together after the race. It is a genuinely festive point-to-point race best enjoyed with an overnight stay on either end, since the point-to-point course rules out a simple day trip. Coastal morning fog usually burns off by midrace, so layers that can be shed along the way work best.
