Event details

In Wolfeboro, Memorial Day is closely tied to Lake Winnipesaukee, and the Memorial Day Celebration Parade to Dockside is your cue that boating season is beginning in the Lakes Region. You can join local veterans and the Kingswood Regional High School Band as they step off from Brewster Memorial Field and proceed down South Main Street. The route is short and ends at the Dockside flagpole, where the lake sets a calm backdrop for a focused tribute.

Plan to arrive early. Participants and veterans form up at 8:45 AM at Brewster Memorial Field beside the First Congregational Church, and the parade starts promptly at 9:00 AM, moving north on Main Street. Any sidewalk along South Main Street gives you a clear view, and the area near Cate Park is a strong spot if you want to be close to the finish.

At about 9:15 AM, the remembrance ceremony begins at Dockside, with music from the band and a reading of a patriotic poem. You will see the flag lowered to half-staff, followed by a ceremonial firing salute. The moment many people remember most is when members of the American Legion Auxiliary scatter flower petals into the waters of Wolfeboro Bay. We find the tone respectful and community centered, making it easy to attend with family or as a couple.

The formal program typically concludes around 10:00 AM, leaving you time to walk the shoreline, browse downtown shops, or stop at the Yum Yum Shop for classic treats. For logistics, arrive by 8:30 AM for parking in the municipal lots behind Town Hall or on Glendon Street, wear comfortable shoes, and bring a light jacket since the lake breeze can run cool in late May. In poor weather, the ceremony may move indoors, so check local listings for updates. Veterans are encouraged to march, and Molly the Trolley is often available for anyone who cannot walk the route; if you are staying outside the downtown core, free trolley shuttles can also help you avoid traffic.
