The Bay View Boat Club, situated at 489 Terry Francois Blvd in San Francisco, is a venerable institution with roots tracing back to the late 1930s. Originally emerging from the social gatherings of boat enthusiasts and customers at Joe Boesl’s rowboat repair shop and tavern in Hunter’s Point, the club evolved from the informal Hunter’s Point Boat Club. Incorporated in 1963, it has since become a cornerstone of the Bay Area’s boating community.
The club’s clubhouse, a bright yellow landmark with picturesque gardens, was famously moved by barge to its current location in 1964. It stands adjacent to the city’s only public boat ramp, equidistant between AT&T Park and Chase Center. Here, members and guests alike enjoy a rich tapestry of boating education, competitive sailboat racing from April to October, and the annual Plastic Classic regatta. The club is known for its warm hospitality, lively music, and commitment to community service, blending boating traditions with a vibrant social scene. Its legacy as a volunteer-driven club is a testament to the enduring spirit of its founding members.
