The City of Fort Myers Yacht Basin, situated at 1300 Lee Street, Fort Myers, FL, is a historic marina that has been a cornerstone of the city’s waterfront since the late 1930s. Originally designed for Sarasota but successfully transferred to Fort Myers through the efforts of Mayor Dave Shapard, this marina was a significant project of the Works Project Administration (WPA) during the Great Depression. Completed over two years, it provided vital employment for local workers.

Located between the Caloosahatchee and Edison Bridges on the Okeechobee Waterway, the Yacht Basin has evolved over the decades. During World War II, it served under the Coast Guard’s direction, and post-war, it transitioned into a municipal marina. Today, it accommodates up to 246 boats and offers year-round live-aboard dockage as well as overnight stays. This marina is not only a testament to the city’s rich history but also a vibrant hub of maritime activity, contributing positively to the local economy. Its strategic location and historic significance make it a compelling destination for boaters and travelers alike.
