The Frostbite Yacht Club, situated at the heart of Essex, Connecticut, boasts a rich history that dates back to March 1933, when the first Eastern Frostbite Dinghy Regatta was held on the Connecticut River. This seminal event marked the genesis of the Essex Yacht Club, solidifying the club’s deep roots in frostbite dinghy sailing. The club’s Spring and Fall Frostbite racing seasons, hosted in collaboration with the Essex Yacht Club, feature an array of vessels including Etchells, Ideal 18s, JY15s, Lasers, and 420s.

Each Sunday, from early March to late April and again from October, the club comes alive with the sound of sails and the determination of sailors braving the elements. The legacy of the club is evident in its enduring traditions and the camaraderie among its members, some of whom have been participating in frostbiting since the late 1970s. As the seasons change, the Frostbite Yacht Club remains a vibrant hub of sailing activity, celebrating the spirit of adventure and the beauty of the Connecticut River. Here, sailors and spectators alike can witness the unique blend of history, passion, and resilience that defines this remarkable sailing community.
