Ketewomoke Yacht Club, founded in 1913, stands as the oldest surviving yacht club on Long Island, a testament to Huntington’s maritime heritage. Originally built on pilings in Huntington Harbor, the club now rests on a parcel of land at 75 North New York Avenue in Halesite. The building, with its elaborate tin ceilings and narrow vertical stained-wood wainscoting, retains an authentic early 20th-century charm. This historic clubhouse has been beautifully maintained, reflecting the era when Huntington’s harbors transitioned from industrial and transportation hubs to recreational havens for the burgeoning suburban class.
The club’s significance extends beyond its architectural beauty; it is also closely associated with the renowned abstract painter Arthur Dove, who lived in the second-story entertainment room from 1929 to 1933. Today, Ketewomoke Yacht Club continues to be a vibrant community, managed and supported entirely by its membership, offering a picturesque, friendly, and safe environment for its members to enjoy.
