Oyster Bay Marina at Ladysmith Harbour, situated at 611 Oyster Bay Drive, Ladysmith, BC, V9G 1A7, Canada, stands as a testament to the rich maritime history of the region. This marina, now operated by the Stz’uminus First Nation through Thuy’she’Num Property Management Limited Partnership, is a modern iteration of a site that has been a hub of activity for thousands of years. The Chemainus First Nations once found shelter and sustenance in these warm waters and sheltered harbour.

In the late 19th century, the area transformed into a bustling industrial centre under the vision of James Dunsmuir, with the construction of coal wharfs, smelters, and foundries. The marina’s location was pivotal for the shipping of coal, ore, and other goods, connecting Ladysmith to Vancouver, Victoria, and beyond. Today, Oyster Bay Marina offers 170 slips for pleasure craft, 12 for liveaboards, and 900 feet of space for visiting vessels, blending historical significance with contemporary luxury and scenic beauty. As part of the province’s reconciliation efforts, this marina continues to evolve, honoring its past while embracing its future.
