Pacific Yacht Club was established in 1957 for military members on the beautiful waters of Hickam Harbor by Col. John Vogt and Gen. Harris Hunter. Named after the Southern Cross as seen above the Pacific Ocean, the PYC members have volunteered countless hours to develop and establish the club in its present location. Perhaps no greater influence came from Lou Foster (“Papa Lou”), both developing the harbor and promoting the sport of sailing, and for whom the southwest point of the Harbor is affectionately named. Today, the PYC hosts several races and family friendly events each year for its members and remains a strong advocate for women in sailing. Additionally, the PYC is active within the Hawai’i community, hosting and supporting several state sailing competitions each year. As a volunteer run yacht club, we are excited for sailors, both new and experienced, to join our club and experience the joy that Hickam Harbor offers.
