At the heart of the Huron River Chain of Lakes, the Portage Yacht Club stands as a testament to a rich history and enduring elegance. Located at 8930 Dexter-Pinckney Road in Pinckney, Michigan, this marina has its roots in the late 19th century when the area was transformed from swamp and farmland into a vibrant summer retreat. Since 1896, the club has been a hub for sailing and social gatherings, though it paused activities around 1917 due to the Spanish Flu.
In 1995, the club merged with the former Newport Beach Club to form the modern Portage Yacht Club, complete with a new building that replaced the old facilities. Today, members enjoy a variety of activities including boating, swimming, and feasting on the lake’s scenic shores. The club’s legacy is woven into the fabric of the community, where early cottagers and businessmen once gathered to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the lake. As a contemporary haven, the Portage Yacht Club offers an inviting blend of history, natural beauty, and luxurious amenities.
