The Severn Sailing Association, located at 311 First Street in Annapolis, Maryland, is a private yacht club with a rich history that dates back to 1954. Founded by a group of passionate sailors from the Round Bay Community, including John J. Hopkins, Richard C. Bartlett, and Robert F. Podlich, the club was incorporated on October 28 of that year. Despite initial challenges with local zoning laws, the club’s leaders persevered and eventually found a suitable site at the end of First Street in Eastport.

Here, they constructed a dock in 1958 and launched the boats of their five initial centerboard fleets. The club’s burgee, designed by John Donald, features navy blue shapes representing Severn River and Round Bay on a white background. Today, the Severn Sailing Association is renowned for its vibrant junior program, top-notch competition, and inclusive environment, welcoming sailors of all backgrounds. It continues to foster a community dedicated to promoting one-design sailing, sailing education, and the preservation of the Severn River area. The club’s mission is as vibrant as the waters it calls home, making it a standout destination for sailing enthusiasts.
