Update March 2018: The channel has been dredged extra wide. Depth is 7-8 at MLW (zero tide). Shoaling and dredging are a regular cycle occurring approximately every other year here (depending on storm activity). The City of Hampton normally dredges the inlet to about 8 feet MLW depths, however throughout the 2 year cycle the inlet will reduce to about about 6 feet MLW. Then the cycle repeats. Boats in the Salt Pond regularly transit the inlet all year round. The City of Hampton owns and is responsible for the condition of the inlet. Concerns may be expressed by calling the city help line at 757-727-8311. Let them know the inlet is important to boaters.
