Wells Harbor Town Docks, situated at the heart of Wells, Maine, is a historic maritime hub that has been a cornerstone of the community since the early 17th century. Established by Edmund Littlefield in 1640-41, the area around the Webhannet River saw the emergence of a sawmill and gristmill, marking the beginning of the town’s growth. Over the centuries, the beaches of Wells served as a crucial landing point for traders and fishermen, with Drakes Island notably named after a Casco Bay trader.

The late 19th century saw the development of lodging and entertainment ventures, including the Atlantic House and Island Ledge House, though these were eventually replaced by smaller hotels and boarding houses. Today, the harbor is a testament to its rich history, with its natural resources and scenic coastline making it an attractive destination. The area has evolved with the times, yet retains its historic charm, offering a unique blend of maritime legacy and modern amenities for visitors to enjoy.
