West End Boat Club

The West End Boat Club, situated at 500 West 2nd Street in Essington, Pennsylvania, is a venerable maritime institution celebrating over 125 years of history. Founded on January 3, 1898, this club has evolved from humble beginnings to a thriving community. Originally located on Jeffrey Street, the club relocated to its current site in Essington, a property that was once a swampy and undeveloped area. During World War II, the Navy operated from this location, leaving behind remnants such as rotted bulkheads.

Through the tireless efforts of its members, the land was cleared and graded, and a new clubhouse was built in 1993. This initial structure, though modest, marked the beginning of a larger vision. Subsequent expansions, funded by member-financed bonds, led to the current facility, which was ready for use by May 2002. Today, the West End Boat Club boasts a marina, a clubhouse with a bar, kitchen, and dining area, and hosts various social events, including general membership meetings and bingo nights. This club stands as a testament to the dedication and perseverance of its members, offering a welcoming and vibrant community for those who love the water.
