Wild berries and mountain festivities fill Alyeska’s summer slopes
Two free days of berry picking, food, music, vendors, and family activities draw thousands to Girdwood beneath the Chugach Mountains.
Event details
Girdwood celebrates late-summer berries with two free days of food, music, and family activities set against the mountain backdrop of Alyeska Resort, drawing up to 4,000 visitors without ever losing the town’s trail-and-rainforest character in the process. Vendors and local makers fill the grounds alongside opportunities to explore the surrounding landscape on foot or by tram ride.
Because berry conditions shift naturally from year to year, part of the festival’s charm lies in its unpredictability: families arriving expecting a bumper crop or a lighter one both find plenty to do, from browsing vendor booths to riding the tram for mountain views above the festival grounds, regardless of how the wild berries actually turned out that particular season.
Parking and lodging run limited during the festival, so an overnight stay or a carefully planned shuttle is worth arranging ahead of time. Pair festival hours with a tram ride, a hike, or a drive along Turnagain Arm, and arrive early for the easiest access to the grounds. Admission itself remains free both days of the festival’s run.
