Event details

The Sciencenter in Ithaca hosts weekly Animal Feeding sessions most Wednesdays from January 28 through late December 2026, running from 3pm to 4:30pm. This family-friendly program invites you to join a Sciencenter animal keeper as they feed the museum’s collection of snakes, lizards, frogs, and fish, turning a simple meal into an educational look at predator-prey relationships, specialized diets, and animal behavior. You might see a corn snake constrict prey or a bearded dragon snap up insects during the session.

The feeding takes place in the Mezzanine Gallery, surrounded by naturalistic terrariums and aquariums. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for children ages 2 to 17, and $7 for seniors 65+, including access to all exhibits. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm, with extended hours on Thursdays. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the feeding to explore other exhibits.

The Sciencenter is fully accessible, with free parking at 601 First Street and wheelchairs available. After your visit, walk the Sagan Planet Walk or head downtown for dinner. Balance your science day with waterfront time at Cayuga Lake, visible just blocks away. Stewart Park offers lakefront paths and a historic carousel.

Extend your stay with gorge hikes at nearby parks or book lakefront accommodations through Lake.com along Cayuga’s 38-mile shoreline. For added scenery, include a stop at Cayuga Lake State Park or plan a longer Finger Lakes loop that includes Finger Lakes State Park.
