Event details

Nyack’s Street Fair Sunday on May 17 closes downtown streets to traffic from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., turning Main Street, Broadway, and South Broadway into a pedestrian marketplace with 200-plus vendor booths selling handmade crafts, vintage clothing, antiques, prepared foods, and local art.

The fair runs the length of Nyack’s historic commercial district, roughly eight blocks from the municipal parking lot north to the village green, with live music stages at both ends and food trucks parked at intervals. Admission is free, but street closures mean limited vehicle access, so arrive early to claim parking in municipal lots off Route 59 or take the TZx bus from the Tarrytown Metro-North station, a 15-minute ride west.

Nyack sits on the western shore of the Hudson River at the base of the Palisades, a dramatic line of basalt cliffs formed 200 million years ago during the breakup of the supercontinent Pangaea. The village became a shipbuilding and river trade hub in the 19th century, and Main Street’s brick storefronts date largely from the 1890s. Today, Nyack is known for its gallery scene, independent bookstores, and waterfront park, all of which remain open during the fair. May weather in the lower Hudson Valley is typically in the 60s and 70s, ideal for walking, though occasional rain showers are common, so pack a light rain jacket. The fair draws families, antique hunters, and day-trippers from across the metro area, with crowds peaking between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Between vendor browsing, walk two blocks east to Memorial Park on the Hudson River, where you’ll find benches, a small beach, and a view across to Tarrytown and the Tappan Zee Bridge. The park includes a playground and open lawn, making it a good escape if you’re traveling with restless kids.

Street Fair Sunday is dog-friendly on leash, and you’ll see plenty of families with pets navigating the vendor rows. Plan for frequent snack breaks at food trucks offering everything from empanadas and lobster rolls to cold-pressed lemonade and ice cream. Most vendors accept cash and card, but ATMs are available inside shops along Main Street.

Make Street Fair Sunday part of a Hudson River weekend by booking a rental on Lake.com in Nyack or nearby Piermont, ideally within walking distance of the waterfront for easy access to the village green and river trails. After the fair winds down, grab dinner at The River Club (established 2000) on Burd Street for upscale American fare with marina views, or head to Art Café (1990) on South Broadway for Mediterranean dishes in a gallery-filled dining room. Nyack’s Street Fair Sunday combines small-town charm, Hudson River access, and pedestrian-friendly browsing in a single relaxed day, making it a reliable spring outing for couples, families, and anyone looking for a low-stress escape from the city.
