Event details

On the second Saturday of each month, Beacon transforms its Main Street galleries into an after-hours art circuit, with openings running from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. or later at participating venues including Clutter Gallery, Matteawan Gallery, and the Howland Cultural Center, a Greek Revival landmark built in 1872. You’ll find contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media across more than a dozen stops, many offering wine, small bites, and live music in intimate gallery spaces. The event is free, family-friendly, and draws art collectors, curious first-timers, and locals who treat it as a monthly ritual.

Arrive by 5:30 p.m. to claim street parking near the Metro-North station (free after 6 p.m. on weekends), then start your walk at the south end of Main Street and work your way north. Most galleries stay open until at least 9 p.m., giving you time to linger over a favorite piece or chat with artists during opening receptions. Dress casually but comfortably for walking, and note that Beacon’s brick sidewalks can be uneven in spots. Strollers are manageable on Main Street, though some galleries have narrow doorways.

Between gallery stops, fuel up at Spotty Dog Books & Ale (2013) for craft beer and bar snacks, or make a dinner reservation at The Roundhouse (2011), where riverside tables overlook a small waterfall on Fishkill Creek just before it meets the Hudson. After 9 p.m., the Howland Cultural Center often hosts late-night performances or DJ sets, extending the evening for those who want to keep the night going.

For a full Second Saturday weekend, book a Hudson River-view rental on Lake.com and spend Sunday morning walking the 1.2-mile Klara Sauer Trail along the waterfront, where you’ll pass under the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge and find benches facing the river’s wide stretch. Beacon’s art walk pairs naturally with the town’s cafe culture and outdoor access, making it a repeatable getaway for couples and creative-minded travelers looking for a low-key Hudson Valley escape.
