A riverfront street-food crawl in downtown Chattanooga
Graze your way through Chattanooga Street Food Festival with local vendors and pop-up kitchens, then stretch your legs on the Tennessee Riverwalk nearby.
Event details
Each May, the Chattanooga Street Food Festival takes over the First Horizon Pavilion for a one-day tasting circuit in the Southside District, a short walk from the Tennessee Riverfront. You move through an organized row of pop-up kitchens and mobile vendors, sampling Southern comfort staples alongside global street food in a single afternoon. It is an easy stop for food-focused travelers, families, and groups who want broad coverage of the local scene without committing to multiple reservations.
Under the open-air pavilion, service is designed to keep lines moving, with menus that often include wood-fired pizza, street tacos, and artisanal desserts. The vendor lineup changes year to year, typically balancing established Chattanooga names with newer chefs. After you pick up your order, we recommend walking a few blocks to the Tennessee Riverwalk, where you can eat with river views and more breathing room than the pavilion floor.
Entry is free, so plan to pay vendor by vendor and bring both cards and cash. Arrive at 11:00 AM for the shortest waits, since the busiest window is usually 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM and top items can sell out by mid-afternoon. Use the CARTA electric shuttle for a free ride from downtown hotels to Southside, wear comfortable shoes, and carry a reusable water bottle. If the pavilion feels packed, take your food to the green space near Finley Stadium or along the river.
The festival runs outdoors rain or shine, and the pavilion provides overhead cover for many vendors and some seating. Kids do well here thanks to the open layout and broad menu range, and leashed dogs are generally fine in outdoor areas, though crowds and noise can be intense at peak times. For the easiest access, stay in Downtown or Southside, especially near the river, or look at vacation rentals and regional homes through Lake.com for a residential base over the weekend.
