Music, salmon, and community fill Cordova’s coastal summer weekend
Cordova combines live music, wild salmon, an artisan market, youth activities, and road races during a destination festival beside Prince William Sound.
Event details
Cordova’s Copper River Salmon Jam gathers live music, dancing, wild salmon, and an artisan market into a single coastal weekend, sharing its dates with the Alaska Salmon Runs for a rare combination of culture, food, and endurance racing in one remote destination. Reaching Cordova by air or ferry only adds to the sense of arrival before the festivities even begin in earnest.
Families will find the festival’s youth programming and community feel especially welcoming, with the working waterfront and surrounding glacier views giving children plenty to take in between musical sets throughout the weekend. The shared weekend with the road races adds an extra layer of energy without ever overwhelming the festival grounds themselves or crowding out the music.
Because nearly every visitor needs to fly or take the ferry in, build time into the schedule for weather delays and transportation logistics well before the festival dates. Festival admission is ticketed, with prices varying by pass, so book travel and lodging before finalizing a race or concert itinerary. Birding and glacier viewing round out a full Prince William Sound weekend well beyond the stage.
