Runners traverse wild Chugach terrain from Girdwood to Eagle River
A limited field tackles more than twenty rugged backcountry miles, including steep trail, river crossings, and remote terrain through the Chugach Mountains.
Event details
Crow Pass Crossing sends a deliberately limited field across roughly 23 miles of true Chugach backcountry, linking Girdwood with the Eagle River Nature Center corridor through steep climbs, rough trail, and water crossings that reward mountain judgment as much as raw speed. Few Alaska races preserve this much genuine wilderness character across a single point-to-point course of this length.
This is not a race for casual family spectating, since most of the course sits deep in true backcountry, but the accessible points near either trailhead offer a glimpse of serious mountain running that few travelers encounter otherwise, and the point-to-point format makes for a memorable pickup at the finish once runners finally emerge from the pass and reach the road.
The 9 a.m. start and remote, point-to-point logistics make an overnight stay and a clear support plan essential for anyone following a runner. Arrange transportation, required gear, and post-race pickup well before event day arrives. Spectating is free at accessible points, but most of the route offers no cell service or easy road access for support crews waiting nearby.
