Two weeks of lakeside concerts under the stars
Head north to Sandpoint for the Summer Series: open-air concerts under the stars beside Lake Pend Oreille, with great acts and local charm.
Event details
Lake Pend Oreille’s south shore becomes an outdoor amphitheater each July and August, when the Festival at Sandpoint brings national touring acts to a covered stage with 4,000 lawn seats, mountain backdrop, and sunset views that compete with the headliners. The series runs Thursday through Saturday for two consecutive weeks in late summer, featuring everything from symphony orchestras to folk legends to contemporary jazz, all starting around 7:30 p.m. as the light softens over the water.
Sandpoint sits 45 minutes north of Coeur d’Alene via scenic Highway 95, making it an easy add-on to a lake-country weekend. Bring blankets or low-back chairs for lawn seating (reserved pavilion seats sell out months ahead), pack layers for 60-70°F evening temps, and arrive early to claim your spot and browse Sandpoint’s walkable downtown before showtime. The venue allows outside food and non-alcoholic drinks, or you can buy from festival concessions.
Extend your stay by booking a lakefront property in the greater Coeur d’Alene area through Lake.com, then split your time between both lakes: morning paddleboard sessions on Lake Coeur d’Alene, afternoon drives through the Schweitzer Mountain foothills, and evening concerts on Lake Pend Oreille. It’s the kind of multi-lake itinerary that shows off North Idaho’s summer range without requiring a new base camp every night.
