Event details

Lakefest returns to the Lake Anna Taphouse at 208 Lake Front Drive in Mineral, Virginia, for its annual mid-May gathering. The event runs on a Saturday in mid-May beginning at noon, extending into the evening as the lake light drops over the water behind the stage. The Taphouse, positioned directly on the lake with marina access for boaters arriving by water, serves as a natural anchor for the weekend’s mix of live music, local craft beer, and the Lake Anna Love Marketplace, a curated vendor market focused on handmade goods and local artisan products.

Two bands perform across the afternoon and evening, with performances framed against a view of Lake Anna’s main recreational corridor. The beer garden draws from the Taphouse’s rotating selection of regional craft beers and local wines, making it one of the more comfortable outdoor drinking settings on the Virginia lake circuit. Food vendors provide a range from casual lakeside fare through the afternoon to heartier options into the evening. Arriving close to noon gives you the most time to work through the marketplace before the main music crowd arrives in the mid-afternoon. Boaters with access to the Taphouse marina can dock and walk directly into the event, which is among the easier on-water arrivals available at any Mid-Atlantic lake festival.

Lake Anna Itself

Lake Anna covers roughly 13,000 acres in Spotsylvania, Louisa, and Orange counties, making it one of the larger freshwater bodies in Virginia and one of the most popular recreational lakes within a two-hour drive of Washington and Richmond. The lake is divided into a public side and a private side by a causeway, with the public side carrying most of the boating and recreation traffic. The private side, adjacent to the North Anna Nuclear Power Plant’s cooling water intake, runs perceptibly warmer year-round and supports a distinct fish population that includes catfish and crappie alongside bass. Water temperatures on Lake Anna in mid-May typically reach the low to mid-70s on the public side, making it one of the first Virginia lakes to reach fully comfortable swimming conditions each season.

If You’re Going with Kids
Lake Anna State Park, on the public side of the lake off State Route 601, has a supervised swimming beach, canoe and kayak rentals, and an interpretive center covering the lake’s natural and industrial history. The park is an excellent morning destination before Lakefest opens at noon, giving families a structured lakeside experience to precede the afternoon’s festival atmosphere.

What’s Near the Taphouse

Mineral, the nearest town to the Taphouse, gained unexpected national attention after the 2011 Mineral earthquake, a 5.8-magnitude event centered directly beneath the town that was felt along much of the Eastern Seaboard. The town’s small commercial district on Main Street has several casual dining and local business options. The Lake Anna Winery on Courthouse Road, a 10-minute drive from the Taphouse, is the other major waterfront destination in the area and hosts its own events through the spring and summer season.

Where to Stay on the Lake

Lake Anna has one of the most substantial short-term rental inventories of any inland Virginia lake, with waterfront properties ranging from small weekend cottages to large group homes with multiple docks. A lakefront retreat at Lake Anna on Lake.com gives you direct water access and immediate proximity to the Taphouse and the public lake corridor. Mid-May weekends fill quickly on Lake Anna as the season hits its stride; plan lodging at least four to six weeks ahead of the Lakefest date.
