LPOIC Mack of the Month Derby

Running year-round from January 1 to December 31, the Mack of the Month Derby on Lake Pend Oreille offers anglers a unique opportunity to chase trophy-sized lake trout in one of Idaho’s most scenic freshwater settings. Hosted by the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club (LPOIC), this ongoing tournament invites participants to compete each month for the largest mackinaw trout—also known as lake trout—caught on the expansive waters of Lake Pend Oreille near Sandpoint.

Anglers can fish from first light until sunset and launch from any public boat ramp around the lake, making the derby flexible and accessible no matter where you’re based along the shoreline. Weigh-ins can be completed lakeside, giving anglers the freedom to focus on the fish rather than logistics.

While this particular event doesn’t highlight specific sponsors, the LPOIC is well known for its commitment to the local community, often partnering with area businesses and supporting conservation and youth outreach through its other fishing events. Throughout the year, the club also hosts popular seasonal tournaments, including the Spring Derby and the Thanksgiving Derby, both of which draw avid anglers from across the region.
