Blues fills Luckenbach’s dancehall for one day
A classic Texas blues showcase in Luckenbach’s storied dancehall, with seated shows, cold drinks, and an easy drive from Fredericksburg’s Main Street.
Event details
Every April, Luckenbach’s legendary dance hall fills with the sound of electric guitars, harmonica solos, and boots scuffing the wooden floor as some of Texas’s finest blues artists take the stage. This all-day festival, typically held on a Saturday in mid-April, runs from noon to midnight at the Luckenbach Dance Hall, about 15 miles southeast of Fredericksburg and an hour from the limestone bluffs above Canyon Lake. Tickets usually run $20-$30 at the door, with children under 12 free, and the indoor-outdoor setup means you can grab a beer at the bar, then drift outside between sets to the shade of the old oaks.
Blues fans, couples looking for authentic Texas music, and anyone who loves a good two-step will feel right at home here. Past lineups have featured acts like Ally Venable, Anthony Rosano, and local legends from Austin’s blues circuit. The venue holds around 500 people, so arrive by 1 p.m. if you want a seat near the stage. Parking is in the gravel lot across from the dance hall (free, but it fills fast), and there’s no ATM on-site, so bring cash for drinks and merchandise.
April weather in the Hill Country swings from warm afternoons (75-85°F) to cool evenings (55-65°F), perfect for jeans, a light shirt, and a jacket for after sunset. If storms roll in, the dance hall keeps the music going inside, though outdoor seating may get wet. Make it a Hill Country weekend by spending Saturday morning wine tasting along the 290 Wine Trail near Stonewall, then heading to Luckenbach for the afternoon show. Stay near Canyon Lake or Lake LBJ through Lake.com and spend Sunday morning on the water before the drive home.
