What is Merwin Day of Fishing for Kids with Disabilities?
Merwin Day of Fishing for Kids with Disabilities is a unique annual event dedicated to bringing the joy of freshwater fishing to children with disabilities. Held at the picturesque Merwin Fish Hatchery in Ariel, Washington, this special day allows young anglers to explore the thrill of fishing in a supportive and adaptive setting. Scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., this event invites families to join in for a day filled with fun and learning.
How Can Kids Participate in Fishing Activities?
At this event, every child receives their own fishing rod, reel, and tackle, ensuring they have the right equipment to enjoy the day. Each child is partnered with a volunteer coach, who provides guidance and support throughout their fishing experience. Participants have the opportunity to catch up to five fish, which volunteers will clean and pack on ice, allowing families to take home their catch. While the kids engage with nature, families can savor a complimentary barbecue lunch, creating a sense of community and shared enjoyment.
What Other Activities Are Available?
Merwin Day of Fishing also includes a variety of engaging activities beyond fishing. Attendees can participate in games, visit educational booths, and enjoy other fun experiences designed to enhance their day at the hatchery. Sponsored by Pacific Power and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, this event receives support from recreational fishing organizations and corporate partners, ensuring a rich experience for all.
This event offers a wonderful opportunity for kids with disabilities to connect with nature and build lasting memories. Be sure to pre-register to secure your spot for this exciting experience.
