Event details

On Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend at 6:00 PM, you can step onto the field at Doubleday Field for Night at the Ballpark, a 90-minute meet-and-greet with Hall of Fame members and other former players in town for the Military Classic. Instead of lining up at a signing table, you circulate on the grass and along the dugouts for quick conversations and photos. You may see familiar faces such as Ozzie Smith, Rollie Fingers, or Wade Boggs, alongside alumni from the afternoon game.

The appeal is simple: you get close access in a relaxed, photo-focused setting inside one of Cooperstown’s most storied venues, with evening light settling over the village near Otsego Lake. Plan to arrive early, since Hall of Fame members typically participate for the first hour, and the time moves quickly once the lines form for photos.

Tickets are limited to 500 and often sell out well ahead of the weekend, so buy as soon as your travel dates are firm. Dress for an outdoor evening and bring a light jacket; if heavy rain hits, the program usually shifts indoors to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. For the smoothest arrival, park in the perimeter trolley lots and ride in, with the red and blue lots offering convenient access.

Make it an easy weekend by pairing the Saturday night meet-and-greet with the Military Classic earlier that afternoon, then keeping your stay close to the water. We like lakefront rentals or private homes along the western shore of Otsego Lake, and staying near the village center lets you walk to Doubleday Field and start the morning with coffee by the docks before the museum crowds build. This is a non-autograph event, and it is family-friendly, but every guest needs a ticket.
