Classic cars climb Rich Mountain for scenic gathering
Hundreds of street rods and thousands of visitors gather in Mena and atop Rich Mountain for a two-day automotive tradition.
Event details
Around 200 street rods and hot rods wind their way to downtown Mena and the summit of Rich Mountain during the Queen Wilhelmina Rod Run, with the drive itself, up to the storied Castle in the Sky, forming as much a part of the show as the vehicles on display at the summit.
For traveling families, the mountain drive offers a scenic, unhurried way to introduce children to classic cars without the crowding of a stadium-style event. Watching the procession climb Rich Mountain along one of Arkansas’s most scenic corridors is a memorable detail on its own, separate entirely from the static displays waiting at the top.
With thousands of visitors expected across two days, the event rewards families who stay in Mena, at the state-park lodge, or in nearby cabins and campgrounds rather than driving in each morning. Pack layers for cooler mountain-summit temperatures even in late August, and add the Talimena Scenic Drive or Ouachita National Forest to extend the trip. It is a gentle blend of automotive tradition and genuine mountain scenery worth the drive.
