Event details

Based in the small community of Hope, the Soggy Bottom 100 sends solo riders and small teams across more than 100 miles of rugged Kenai Peninsula terrain with no outside support beyond what they carry themselves. Pacing, weather, and mechanical trouble all become part of a race widely regarded as a defining Alaska endurance test for serious mountain cyclists.

This is an event built for serious mountain bikers rather than family spectating, though the town of Hope itself, with its limited services and backcountry setting, gives visiting families a genuine sense of remote Alaska even without following the course itself, since the community’s quiet, unhurried character says as much about the region as the race does.

The 9 a.m. start and potentially late finish make overnight lodging or camping essential for racers and any family along for support. Hope has limited capacity, so reserve early, review support rules carefully, and arrive with repair gear and food for the day. Spectating is free at accessible points, though registration is required for anyone actually racing the course itself.
