What is the BIG JIG Ice Fishing Tournament?
The BIG JIG Ice Fishing Tournament is an exciting annual event located at Sylvan Lake, specifically at the public access on Lakeshore Drive and 49 Street. This engaging three-day tournament invites ice anglers of all ages to experience the thrill of fishing for various species, including perch, walleye, whitefish, and burbot. The competition not only offers a grand prize of $3,000 for the longest fish caught but also presents additional awards for the longest catch in each species and other categories.
Why Participate in the BIG JIG?
Even though the 2025 event faced cancellation due to warm temperatures and safety concerns, it remains a beloved highlight of Sylvan Lake’s winter festivities typically held in mid-January. This tournament is meticulously organized through the Angler’s Atlas MyCatch App, ensuring anglers from all over can join the fun. In addition to the fishing competition itself, there’s a variety of activities for everyone. For instance, the Polar Dip invites adventurous participants to plunge into the chilly waters, all in support of local charities. Furthermore, the Learn to Fish workshops provide beginners with the basics of ice fishing, making it easy and enjoyable for those just starting out.
