At dusk, Prophetstown’s prairie edges come alive with the American woodcock, nicknamed the timberdoodle. This evening walk is a family-friendly way to witness the bird’s spring courtship flights, with rangers helping you listen for the distinctive calls.
Bring a flashlight for the walk back to the parking area and dress for cooler temps after sunset. If you have time, arrive earlier to wander the park’s trails near the Wabash River.
