Downtown’s riverfront Tree of Light sparkles nightly
A free nightly holiday light display on the River Walk, featuring a towering lit tree and decorated sponsor trees throughout downtown Wisconsin Dells.
Event details
When 65,000 LED lights switch on along a 55-foot silver maple tree each November, the Scenic River Walk transforms into one of the Midwest’s most spectacular holiday displays. This free, self-guided experience runs nightly from 4:30pm to 11pm through January 1, drawing families and couples to the quarter-mile paved riverfront path where 80 additional decorated trees line the route.
The display is located right off Broadway in downtown Wisconsin Dells, where the Wisconsin River curves past the historic sandstone bluffs that give the Dells its name. You’ll find the best viewing between sunset and 8pm, when the tree lights contrast against the twilight sky and fewer crowds mean easier photo opportunities.
The walk is entirely paved and wheelchair-accessible, with benches every few hundred feet for resting. Free parking fills up quickly on weekend evenings, so arrive before 5pm or park a few blocks away along Oak Street. Temperatures in late November through December typically hover between 15-35 degrees, so layer up with warm jackets, insulated boots, and hand warmers.
After your evening stroll, warm up at Monk’s Bar & Grill (est. 1947), just two blocks from the River Walk, where their famous Monkburgers and Wisconsin cheese curds have been a local tradition for nearly 80 years. The downtown location also puts you steps from The District for riverside cocktails or Showboat Saloon for craft beer and live music. Stay close by booking a riverfront property through Lake.com, where you can wake up to Wisconsin River views and explore the Dells by boat during the warmer months.
