A lakeside salute cruise for service members
A special Songo River Queen II cruise on Long Lake for veterans and active duty service members, offering a scenic salute on Memorial Day afternoon.
Event details
The Veterans and Active Duty Memorial Day Cruise offers a calm, respectful way to spend the holiday on Long Lake in Naples, Maine. Hosted by the Naples Lions Club, this 90-minute excursion aboard the Songo River Queen II is a community tribute to those who have served. You will step onto an authentic stern paddle-wheeler replica, leave the crowds on the Naples Causeway behind, and settle into an easy glide past waterfront estates with long views toward the White Mountains and Mount Washington.
On board, the mood is relaxed and social, with veterans, active duty members, and families sharing the afternoon. You can take the open upper deck under the red-striped canopy for fresh air and scenery, or choose the enclosed lower level for a sheltered ride. The captain’s narration adds local context as you pass familiar shoreline landmarks, including the former waterfront home of author Stephen King.
Your ticket includes a complimentary light lunch and water provided by the Lions Club, and a full-service cocktail bar is available if you would like to purchase additional beverages. Boarding begins at 3:00 PM for a prompt 4:00 PM departure, and space is limited, so advance reservations through Eventbrite are strongly recommended. Bring a valid military ID or documentation, and consider a light jacket since late-May lake breezes can run cool.
Accessibility is straightforward, as the Songo River Queen II is handicapped accessible, and the cruise runs rain or shine with overhead cover on both decks. Free street parking is available along the causeway, with the lot at Cornerstone Church as a reliable backup during busy holiday weekends. Veterans, active duty personnel, and immediate family members ride free; for additional guests, contact the event coordinator to confirm space. Pets are generally not permitted, aside from service animals.
