Applying Personal Safety Tips

When planning a stay at an online vacation rental property, it’s essential to prioritize your safety and security and that of your family. Here are a few tips to help you and your fellow guests have a safe and enjoyable experience at your vacation rental.

Checking Out The Area Before Booking

Known as situational awareness, research the property and its surroundings. Is the area known for being safe and secure? How remote is the cabin or cottage?  Is it right on the water, and if so, can everyone swim?

Check for nearby amenities and read reviews from past guests to gauge their experiences. Trust your instincts – if something seems off or has multiple negative reviews, consider looking for another property.

Securing Your Personal Information

When booking a vacation rental, use Lake’s secure payment system. This way, your personal information remains private, and you have the assurance of Lake’s support in case of any issues.

Doing a Walk-Through

Once you’ve arrived at the property, familiarize yourself with the safety devices and precautions provided. Ensure that smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are functioning, and locate fire extinguishers and first-aid kits. If the property has keyless entry, follow the host’s instructions for accessing and securing the property during your stay.

Occupancy Sensors

Additionally, keep an eye out for occupancy sensors. While these devices can help maintain a safe occupancy level and alert the host of any safety concerns, be aware of your privacy. If you feel uncomfortable with the presence of sensors, don’t hesitate to communicate with your host or Lake’s support team.

Keeping Your Location Private

During your stay, exercise general safety practices such as not sharing the property access information with strangers, locking doors and windows when not at the property, and keeping personal belongings secure.

Avoid revealing your exact location when posting photos or updating social media.  No need to inform others where you are and that you’re not at home.

Reporting a Concern

If you have any questions or concerns about safety and security, don’t hesitate to reach out to your host or Lake’s support team. They are there to help you have a safe and enjoyable stay.

Take the necessary safety precautions, stay vigilant, and prioritize your safety while enjoying your vacation rental. These tips can help ensure a more secure and positive experience for you and your fellow guests.
