Buccaneer Yacht Club, situated at 4381 Park Rd, Mobile, AL, has been a beacon for sailing enthusiasts since its inception in 1928. Founded by Leon Delaplaine, Foster Pfleger, John Mandeville, and Ben Mayfield, this member-run sailing club was born out of a shared passion for the sea. The club’s early days were marked by the creation of a 30-foot gaff-rigged cabin sloop, christened the Buccaneer, which became a symbol of their maritime adventures.

Located on Mobile Bay, the club’s first clubhouse was established at Barrett’s Beach in 1929, featuring a two-story structure and a 1,000-foot pier. This private club is dedicated to promoting the sport of sailing and fostering a sense of fellowship among its members. With its rich history and commitment to member involvement, Buccaneer Yacht Club remains a vibrant community where sailors come together to enjoy the spirit of sailing and the camaraderie that accompanies it. Today, it continues to support intercollegiate sailing and boasts notable members who have made significant contributions to the sport.
