Leesylvania State Park

Leesylvania State Park, situated at 2001 Daniel K. Ludwig Dr, Woodbridge, VA, is a 556-acre haven that borders the historic Potomac River. This site, rich in history, has been a significant location for thousands of years, with Native Americans being the first to inhabit the land. In 1608, Capt. John Smith visited this area during his voyage of discovery. The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks and was once owned by the illustrious Lee and Fairfax families, whose legacy is still evident in the remnants of their residences and a cemetery within the park.

The marina at Leesylvania State Park offers a serene escape, with boat launch ramps, fishing, and guided canoe tours. The park also features four hiking trails, a universally accessible fishing pier, and a fitness trail. Each September, the park commemorates the Potomac River Blockade of 1861, a pivotal event in the Civil War. Donated by Daniel K. Ludwig in 1978, this park was dedicated in 1985 and fully opened in 1992, preserving a piece of American history for future generations. Its proximity to Washington, D.C., and Fredericksburg makes it an ideal getaway for those seeking both natural beauty and historical significance.
