The Port of Bay City Authority, originally called Matagorda County Navigation District #2, was established in 1960 for the purpose of facilitating waterborne commerce on the lower Colorado River. Over the years the Port Authority has evolved to meet the needs of navigation and drainage in the area.The port commission consist of six commissioners who serve staggered terms of six years.

New transient dockage is a new floating pier as you enter the harbor, June 2012. Vessels larger than 70ft should use the commercial quay wall near the restaurant. Transient slips are on the floating G dock next to shore. 4 slips on each side. Slips 1-4 and 25-28. Weekly transient rate is $5 per foot per week. Monthly transient rate is $12 per foot per month.
