Following military service during WWI, Earl Davidson started a meat market in Ohio along with his wife, Dorothy. Together, they ran a successful business from the 20’s into the early 50’s while raising their three boys, Ed, Chip, and Herald. Looking for a change in the mid 50’s, the Davidson family moved to Cody, Wyoming and bought a cattle ranch. They ran the farm prosperously for about a decade until Chip’s wife was seriously injured in an accident, and Earl declared, “No piece of dirt is worth this!”They sold the ranch and took a vacation to Seattle, the city where Earl had departed from during his service and the most beautiful place they had ever seen. While there, Earl was shown Uplake Marina, and he considered it for purchase using the money earned from the sale of the ranch. Ed and Chip agreed to invest their portion of the ranch proceeds as well, and in March 1961, Davidson’s Uplake Marina was in business.
