When to go and where to stay

June through September is the primary season for on-water recreation. Montana summers are short but intensely beautiful — long days, warm lake temperatures by late June, and wildflower meadows in the surrounding valleys. July and August are warmest for swimming and bass fishing; trout and kokanee fishing can be stronger in spring and fall when water temperatures suit cold-water species.
