Event details

On the second morning of St. George’s annual Art Festival, runners of all abilities line up at Town Square Splash Pad for a fast, festive race through the heart of historic downtown.

The Art Attack 1 Mile & 5K, held April 4, 2026, starts at 9 a.m. at 50 S. Main Street. The 1-mile course runs out and back to the roundabout at Flood and Tabernacle Streets, while the 5K completes three loops on the same section before finishing.

Registration costs $15-$45 for the 5K and $15-$35 for the 1-mile, depending on age and when you register (early bird rates available until March 30; race-day registration is more expensive). All finishers receive medals and Art Attack socks, with awards given to top three male and female finishers in each race, plus special categories for kids, seniors, and best costume. Packet pickup runs Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Town Square, and post-race festivities include drawings to win original artwork by Southern Utah Art Guild artists.

Runners looking for a short morning workout, families with kids trying their first 5K, and anyone attending the St. George Art Festival who wants to add an active component will enjoy this. The flat, fast course makes it accessible for beginners while still offering competitive times for experienced runners.

After finishing, participants can spend the rest of the day browsing 200+ artist booths, watching live performances on three stages, enjoying food trucks, and experiencing the creative energy of one of Utah’s premier art festivals (which runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on race day). The combination of morning exercise and afternoon art appreciation makes this a memorable way to experience St. George’s cultural scene. Arrive 30 minutes before the 9 a.m. start for warm-up and race-day registration. Downtown parking fills early on Art Festival weekends, so consider arriving by 8:30 a.m. or using nearby parking structures.

Early April in St. George brings pleasant spring mornings (50s-60s at 9 a.m.) that warm into comfortable afternoons (70s-80s), perfect for outdoor running and festival browsing. Dress in layers you can shed after warming up, and bring sunscreen for post-race festival activities. The course is entirely on paved streets with good spectator access for families cheering on participants. After the race and art festival, explore downtown St. George’s galleries and restaurants, all within walking distance of Town Square.

Pair your Art Attack weekend with afternoon visits to Snow Canyon State Park for hiking or Sand Hollow State Park for paddleboarding and swimming. St. George vacation rentals and hotels provide comfortable bases for experiencing both the art festival weekend and the outdoor recreation that makes Greater Zion such a dynamic destination year-round.
