Event details
Beech Mountain Resort sits at 5,506 feet above sea level at the top of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge High Country, making its outdoor concert venue the highest elevation concert setting in the eastern United States. The 2026 Summer Concert Series lineup has been announced and it is, by any measure of the current touring circuit, a serious program: Joe Russo’s Almost Dead opens with two sets on Saturday, June 13; The Red Clay Strays perform later in the season; Lake Street Dive, Charley Crockett, and Jason Isbell are all confirmed additions to a lineup that continues to be released. Tickets and full scheduling are available at beechmountainresort.com and at summerconcert.beechmountainresort.com. The summer season runs June 1 through September 27, 2026.
Beyond the concert series, Beech Mountain’s summer programming includes free weekly community concerts at the Town Park featuring local and regional artists, a scenic chairlift operation providing panoramic Blue Ridge views without a hike, an annual kite festival on the park’s grassy central field, an artisan crafts market at the Visitor Center, a family hike series through the surrounding national forest, and outdoor yoga on the mountain meadows. The altitude guarantees relief from the heat that defines June through August at lower Appalachian elevations: average summer high temperatures at Beech Mountain run in the low 70s, frequently 20 degrees cooler than Asheville and 30 degrees cooler than Charlotte.
The Town of Beech Mountain
Beech Mountain is the highest incorporated town in the eastern United States at 5,506 feet, and its commercial district along Beech Mountain Parkway carries the character of a year-round mountain resort community that has functioned as a ski resort destination since the 1970s. The Fred Baker Art Gallery on Beech Mountain Parkway is a small but consistently stocked gallery supporting High Country artists. Grandfather Mountain, 15 miles south on US-221 near Linville, is one of the most distinctive natural sites in the Southern Appalachians: a rugged quartzite peak with a mile-high swinging bridge and wildlife habitats supporting native black bears, white-tailed deer, river otters, and bald eagles accessible to the public with admission through a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve property that has operated as such since 1992.
If You’re Going with Kids
Grandfather Mountain’s wildlife habitat enclosures are the family programming standout in the immediate area, providing close encounters with native Appalachian species in naturalistic enclosures that position the animals in something closer to behavioral context than traditional zoo settings. The swinging bridge at a mile high consistently registers as the visit’s defining experience for children who have not previously encountered genuine exposure-based height, and it manages that experience safely.
The Water Near the High Country
The Blue Ridge High Country’s rivers and waterfalls define its natural character as much as its elevation. The Watauga River, draining the slopes above Banner Elk and Boone before crossing into Tennessee, supports native brook trout in its headwater reaches and fly fishing access on managed stretches closer to Elizabethton. Linville Falls, 20 miles south of Beech Mountain within the Blue Ridge Parkway corridor, plunges 90 feet into a deep gorge carved by the Linville River through Linville Gorge Wilderness, one of the most rugged protected areas in the East.
